COVID-19 - How We Move Forward

As most of you know, my yoga philosophy is that our practice on the mat is bigger than the pose and our practice off the mat is bigger than ourselves... especially now. If we truly are going to practice our yoga off the mat, then that means making decisions that, though maybe inconvenient, are for the greater good of our community. We are all connected. If there has ever been a time to practice our yoga, it is now.

So it is with a heavy heart that I announce that March 16th will be the last day of live classes for this month. We are currently planning to reopen on April 1st.

I am sure you have a lot of questions. So....

Monthly Passes and Class Passes:

Most of you know that North Texas Yoga supports itself through our members. I am passionate about continuing to share the practice and my goal is to still have a studio for you to come to after all of this is said and done.

Monthly Unlimited Members: If you are in a position where you can continue your monthly payments as scheduled, it would be extremely appreciated. When we get back to normal and open back up, I will make any needed adjustments - extensions, credits, free months. All adjustments will be "staggered" to ease the effects and to continue to keep the studio viable. If you are not able to continue your payments, absolutely no problem and I completely understand. I will put your pass on hold and reactivate it when we open. Please email me if you would like me to pause your membership until the 1st of April.

10 Class Passes: If you have a 10 class card, your expiration date will be adjusted accordingly. The adjustments will be made once we open back up. If you had planned to purchase a new 10 class pass once your current one expires and still choose to do so to support the studio, your expiration date will be extended. Your new pass does not activate until your first use.

Other Ways to Support the Studio:

Purchasing a gift certificate for yourself is another way to support the studio. Purchase now and use it later! You can purchase one through our website.

Facebook Group for Home Practice:

A Facebook group has been created for those of you who are current monthly members or class cardholders. Our teachers will livestream our regular schedule of classes from their home practice spaces or from the studio. Live classes should be up and running by Wednesday morning. I'll also be recording meditations and yoga nidra practices for you to join in on. You can join the group at the link below:

North Texas Yoga Facebook Group

I highly recommend joining the group. I realize not everyone is on Facebook. However, you can easily create an account just to join the group and not have to participate in any of the other "socializing".

If you would like to borrow any props from the studio to support you in your home practice, please email me and we can make arrangements to get props to you.

I am committed to staying in touch throughout this. As I have said before, our community is what makes North Texas Yoga special. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are in this together. Please be safe.

Namaste,
Laura, along with Faith, Jennifer, Johanna, Katie, and Sonia

Welcome Autumn

As we move into the Fall and the holidays begin to loom, so often taking time to take care of ourselves is an activity pushed to the back burner. However, it's impossible to be fully present with others unless you first take care of yourself. Remember during this busy season to make a few minutes for yourself. Self-care can include something as simple as taking a leisurely walk, reading a favorite book, having a cup of tea, or attending a yoga class. Even taking ten minutes from your day to practice "Legs Up the Wall" can help you to relax and unwind. When you're planning your next few months, make sure to plan in some "me" time and we know you'll see a difference in your interactions with others. We'll look forward to helping you create that time for yourself every time you step on the mat. Namaste!

Summer is over - Here comes the fun!

Beginning in September, we've got lots of fun on the books! Join us for FREE yoga in the park on Labor Day and then we'll host another free yoga event at Tupps Brewery at the end of the month. Our book club meets again on September 17th to continue our discussion of Living Your Yoga by Judith Hanson Lasater. And, beginning in October, we'll offer a six week Mommy & Me class. We've got so much going on, we can't wait to share it all with you. See you soon on the mat!

Our First Week is in the Books!

What an amazing week! We didn't know what to expect, but our first week of classes was incredible. We were so honored that so many of you chose to share your practice, spirit and energy with us.

This past weekend our 200 hour teacher training group came together and enjoyed their first weekend in the new space. This incredible group of future teachers graduates in June and I can't wait to see them take on the world. Their focus this weekend was on sequencing mentoring, adjusting and the anatomy of the lower body. They used modeling clay on skeletons to learn about the intricate web of muscles that covers our legs and hips.

Don't forget that we will be closed for classes on April 25th, as North Texas Yoga participates in One Love Dallas. This event raises funds to support women's charities in the local area and internationally. For more information or to register to join us, visit. www.onelovedallas.org

Here we grow!

I can't believe how quickly things are moving. It's been just over a week since we made the announcement that North Texas Yoga will open a studio on the square in historic downtown McKinney. Since that time, all the pieces have continued to fall into place so smoothly. For those of you who are familiar with us, North Texas Yoga is a family affair. For me, family isn't only about who you share blood with, but those people who always have your back and support you 110% of the time with their love and energy! Our "family" has been amazing. From friends showing up to help build furniture and load props onto shelves, to extended family of friends hooking us up with amazing deals on things we need to open our doors (signage!), it's been incredible. I truly believe it takes a village and North Texas Yoga is all about community!

I grew up in a family-owned business and know it's hard work, but my husband and daughter are learning those lessons quickly! I am in constant awe of Steven, as he tweaks the website, and changes out 20 lightbulbs from 12  feet in the air! Eleanor loves being able to help mommy with the studio and is always a big fan of anything that requires a trip to Ikea!

It's all coming together. Our vision of a space in McKinney that creates a home for our ever-growing yoga community. We're taking your feedback and making changes and additions to the schedule and getting ready to open our doors April 6th. As of today, you can already begin purchasing memberships and signing up for classes with our new online store located in the SCHEDULE page. We can't wait to share this space with you and roll out our mats. It's going to be special.

Namaste!
